Cranky Teens

For a large population in San Antonio, many are dealing with the dreaded “cranky teens”. We get it and it’s common. After the Summer, who wants to go back to school? Especially the closer you get to graduation! So what can you do to help that teen feel a bit less cranky?

We’ve got some tips!

We’ve talked about routines before and well… it’s because they work! The same applies to that teen of yours. We’ll outline some basics that should help get that attitude in check!

  • Quiet Sleeping Quarters
  • Plenty of Sleep
  • Eat Breakfast
  • Exercise
  • Fresh Air

This list contains all of the usual suspects. However, the truth is, the items on it work! We talk about it a lot. It is important to take care of yourself. Self-care is as important as ever. Neglecting yourself or allowing your teen to neglect themselves, is going to show in a negative way in time. Sometimes sooner than later. Combat that with the basics. Whether they tell you or not, their bodies and minds will benefit from the structure. It is a great start to dealing with cranky teens!

Part of our job, as parents and caregivers, to these teens is to provide structure and working examples of best practices… for life. When we teach our children healthy habits, they often go on to repeat these habits. The opposite is also true. If we teach them bad habits or allow them to form and keep bad habits, they will likely repeat them later in life.

Keep in mind, it’s never too late to adopt new good habits. Even as an adult, it doesn’t just apply to cranky teens! It’s easy to fall into habits that are not earth shattering, but diminish our quality of life. As we learn better ways, we can implement them at anytime in our life. That is the beauty of it… it is never too late to change your habits!
