Counseling in San Antonio

Counseling and the decision to go, can be a tough conversation. Whether that conversation is with a loved one or yourself. Thankfully, in recent years the need to address self-care and mental health has taken center stage. Because of, specifically, famous athletes taking a stand when it comes to their mental health, the conversation and thoughts about it are changing. The stigma that went along with “getting help”, simply has no place in our current society.

Without counseling many will go on to repeat the behaviors and actions that cause the most pain and suffering. You can only begin to heal when you can address the pain and issues. Learning to cope in a healthy way, overcome, maybe even forgive… that is where counseling comes in. Identifying the pain can be difficult on your own. Understanding why you react to situations the way you do, is not easy. Talking about what is bothering you, can be helpful in so many ways. A professionally trained ear can guide you to a better understanding of your emotions and can help you with productive ways to handle situations.

Counseling for Kids in San Antonio

If you are considering counseling for yourself or someone you love, you might be wondering what that looks like. Is it the traditional long chaise lounge with a counselor sitting at your head taking notes? Not so much!

While that may be a setting for some patients often the setting is more like sitting in a friend’s living room. Providing a comfortable and safe place for you to work through all of the feelings and emotions is most beneficial. When we are helping children sometimes the use of toys or a play center might be useful. Making every patient feel safe and comfortable is priority. Our team of counselors are here to help. Nurturing a safe place for unpacking and organizing all of this is part of the process with our patients.

What’s the Commitment

Perhaps you are wondering if counseling is forever. That can be a big commitment and a deterrent. However, the reality of counseling that lasts forever is actually slim. Most patients get a lot out of seeing a counselor. Most often, the counseling takes place for a period of time. Some patients find it beneficial to attend counseling periodically. You maintain your car, your appliances… don’t forget about you and your loved ones. The goal is always, that the patient will learn new and better ways to cope and handle anything that life may through their way. The cases that require lifetime counseling are actually rather minimal.

While an exact number of recommended sessions with a counselor cannot be predicted without meeting the patient, “forever” is rarely the number suggested. Our team of professionals is empathetic to the patient at all times. We understand the stress and turmoil unbalance can bring to the family unit. Crossing Bridges Counseling is here to help you where you are. Pick up the phone or use our contact form and reach out to us today. Suffering in silence is not a solution. Let’s work together to find resolution and peace in your life.
